Newsletter – May 2020

Welcome!

Dear CLIMB-BIG-DATA user,
This is our first newsletter and it’s great to have you on board with this exciting new project, created to serve the needs of microbiologists—to help you collaborate with colleagues, share data, find pre-installed software and get help from our team and community.

CLIMB evolves into CLIMB-BIG-DATA

We are delighted that UKRI has agreed to fund CLIMB-BIG-DATA. With >1,000 active users and >4,500 VMs fired up over the past few years, CLIMB has given us the expertise and infrastructure to build this ambitious follow-on project around your needs.

Our contribution to COG-UK consortium

CLIMB-BIG-DATA is providing computing support to the UK’s SARS-Cov-2 genome sequencing efforts, co-ordinated by the COG-UK Consortium, which involves CLIMB-BIG-DATA  partners in Norwich, Birmingham and Cardiff.

COG-UK data is stored and released through our CLIMB-BIG-DATA infrastructure:

For over two years, she has been working as a Research Software Engineer in Cardiff’s School of Biosciences.

We are hiring!

We will soon be hiring:

  • a Research Software Engineer in Birmingham

Please share your success stories

If you have used our CLIMB-BIG-DATA infrastructure to generate successful research outputs, we would be delighted to share your great news on our website and social media.
Please email our Project Manager Lisa.Marchioretto@quadram.ac.uk or tag us on Twitter (@MRCClimb)  and we’ll celebrate your success on our channels.

Stay secure!

Hacking attacks on UK computing infrastructure are on the increase, including sites supporting COVID-19 efforts. Please use only strong passwords and be vigilant for unusual activity on your VMs.
Please email us with any concerns: Lisa.Marchioretto@quadram.ac.uk
